ByTheBook
Terms of Service
Effective date: 31 July 2026
1. Operator and agreement
ByTheBook is operated by Víctor Albertos Gil. Full trader and contact information is available in the Legal Notice. Questions: team@learnbythebook.com. These terms govern the ByTheBook apps, website and services. By using the service, you agree to these terms.
If you downloaded the iOS app, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the app licence. These terms govern the ByTheBook service and subscription and do not replace mandatory store or consumer terms.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 16 years old. The app may create a guest account automatically. You may connect it using an available Apple or Google sign-in method. You are responsible for controlling access to your device and account and for providing accurate information.
A connected ByTheBook account can synchronize supported data across devices. Purchases must be used with the ByTheBook account to which RevenueCat and the store receipt are associated; restoring a purchase does not transfer it to a different ByTheBook account.
3. Free and Premium service
ByTheBook provides public-domain classic literature adapted for language practice, with features such as audio, contextual explanations and spaced review. A defined starter set is available without Premium. Other stories and associated learning content require an active Premium entitlement.
The catalogue and features may evolve. We do not guarantee a particular story, adaptation, feature or weekly publication cadence. Reasonable maintenance, safety work or circumstances outside our control may interrupt availability.
4. Monthly Premium subscription
- Premium is an automatically renewing one-month subscription. There is no annual plan, lifetime paid plan, free trial or introductory offer in the initial release.
- The app displays the localized price and billing information supplied by Apple App Store or Google Play before purchase. The store is the billing source of truth and applies the relevant tax treatment.
- Payment is charged by Apple or Google to your store account. ByTheBook does not receive your payment-card details.
- Unless you cancel through the store before renewal under its rules, the subscription renews and the store charges the next monthly period.
- After cancellation, Premium normally remains available until the paid store period expires. Billing issues, refunds or store decisions may change access according to the confirmed entitlement state.
5. Manage, cancel and restore
Manage or cancel an iOS subscription in Apple subscription settings; manage or cancel an Android subscription in Google Play subscriptions. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription.
Restore Purchases asks the relevant store to re-check purchases associated with the current store and ByTheBook accounts. It does not move a purchase between ByTheBook accounts.
6. Account deletion is not subscription cancellation
Deleting a ByTheBook account permanently removes its associated product data, subject to the narrow retention described in the Privacy Policy. It does not cancel billing controlled by Apple or Google. Cancel the store subscription separately before deleting the account if you do not want it to renew.
7. Gifts, refunds and consumer rights
A manual Premium grant is a revocable gift, is not a paid subscription and has no cash value.
Apple or Google handles store payment, cancellation and refund requests under its rules. Nothing in these terms removes a refund, withdrawal, conformity or other mandatory consumer right that applies under the law of your country.
8. Educational content and AI assistance
ByTheBook uses automated tools, including AI-assisted editorial production, together with review processes to prepare adaptations, glosses, audio and learning material. Errors may remain. The service supports reading practice and enjoyment; it is not a certified language course, professional assessment or substitute for teaching advice.
9. Intellectual property and acceptable use
Original public-domain texts remain public domain. ByTheBook owns or licenses its adaptations, recordings, glosses, illustrations, software, branding and original presentation. We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the service while these terms apply.
You must not scrape or bulk-download the service, bypass access controls, redistribute protected content as a dataset or competing product, reverse engineer where law does not permit it, interfere with security or availability, misuse accounts, or infringe another person’s rights.
10. Suspension and termination
We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary for security, material misuse, legal compliance or protection of other users. Where appropriate, we will explain the reason and allow you to contact us. You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time; store subscriptions must be cancelled separately.
11. Responsibility and liability
We provide the service with reasonable care but cannot promise uninterrupted operation or that every educational item is error-free. To the maximum extent allowed by law, we are not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss. Nothing excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or mandatory consumer guarantees.
12. Governing law and disputes
Spanish law governs these terms. This choice does not deprive you of mandatory consumer protections or courts available in the country where you habitually reside. Please contact team@learnbythebook.com first so we can try to resolve a problem.
13. Changes
We may update the service and these terms. We will identify the effective date and give reasonable notice of material changes. If a change requires fresh agreement under applicable law, we will ask for it before the change applies to you.
