Delete your ByTheBook account

Delete in the app

In ByTheBook, open Profile, choose Delete Account and follow the confirmation steps. This path is available for automatically created guest accounts and connected Apple or Google accounts. Connected accounts require recent sign-in verification; guest accounts require a freshly refreshed session.

Deletion is attempted immediately. If an external service is temporarily unavailable, the app reports that deletion failed and lets you retry; it does not claim success while cleanup remains incomplete.

If you cannot access the app

Email team@learnbythebook.com with the subject “Account deletion”. For a connected account, we will send a one-time verification code to the email already stored on that account. Email alone is not proof of ownership. Once identity is verified, we will complete the request without undue delay and normally within one month.

An unconnected guest account has no verified email or external identity. If you can still access that guest account, delete it in the app. If you cannot access it, we cannot safely delete an account based only on a claimed UUID or device identifier.

What is deleted

• Account identity, preferences, sessions and refresh tokens.
• Assessments, reading progress and history, saved stories and feed state.
• Glossary bookmarks, review notes, cards and review history.
• Requests, feedback and notification preferences.
• Manual and RevenueCat entitlement data and account-linked product metrics.
• The connected Firebase authentication user and the environment-specific RevenueCat customer, where applicable.

Limited retention after deletion

ByTheBook does not keep a UUID-linked profile, entitlement history or product metrics for accounting after deletion. Deleted data may remain inaccessible in encrypted rotating database backups for up to 35 days and is not restored without reapplying completed deletions.

Ordinary operational logs expire within 30 days; Sentry backend errors and unlinked Crashlytics diagnostics within 90 days; and minimized security/admin audit records within 12 months. These systems are designed not to retain the deleted UUID or account content. Store transaction records held by Apple or Google follow their own legal and retention duties.

Subscriptions are not cancelled

Deleting your account or uninstalling ByTheBook does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription. If Premium is active, manage or cancel it first in Apple subscription settings or Google Play subscriptions. You may still choose immediate account deletion after seeing this warning.
